Homestead Exemption is a reduction in a home owner’s property taxes. The amount of the exemption is deducted from the assessed value.

If you purchased a home in 2020 and it is your primary residence, you should file for your Homestead Exemption. In most counties, this needs to be done before April 1, 2020. Be sure to treat this as a priority, so you are able to take advantage of any and all tax discounts available.

***Please note that if the property is located within city limits, you may need to file an exemption with the city as well.

If you have been approved for this exemption in the past, you do not need to do it again. The Homestead Exemption will remain attached to the property until there is a change in the ownership.
