This is a great Summer craft just in time for July 4th! Your children will have fun making their own tie dye shirts!
100% cotton white T-Shirt, like this Gildan one
Tulip One Step Tie Dye in Blue and Red
Cookie Cooling Rack
Plastic Table Cloth
Bucket of Warm Water
Step 1: Soak and Gather Shirt
Begin by soaking the shirt in some warmish water. Then gather in a diagonal like from the edge you want to start on.
Step 2: Zip Ties
Zip tie the first tie about 4 inches or so from the shoulder edge, then every 2 inches until the end.
Step 3: Tie Dye Time
Wear gloves, work over plastic on a drying rack. Gently squeeze out the dye in each zip tied section of the shirt. To keep the dye from puddling and running together underneath, lay out a garbage bag and then use a baking rack.
Step 4: Wrap
Wrap it in a grocery bag and place in warm area for 6-8 hours. Then remove from bag and rinse out with warm water. Rinse, ring, rinse, ring, rinse, etc… Then clip off the zip ties carefully. Rinse and ring until the water runs clear.
Step 5: Wash
Then throw it in the washing machine with soap and everything. Dry and wear!
Thank you to Doodle Craft for this fun 4th of July DIY idea!
