A Homestead Exemption is a reduction in a homeowner’s property taxes. The amount of the exemption is deducted from the assessed value.
If the property is your primary residence, you should file for your Homestead Exemption. In most counties, this needs to be done before April 1, 2024. Be sure to treat this as a priority, so you can take advantage of all tax discounts available.
***Please note that if the property is located within city limits, you may need to file an exemption with the city as well.
***Senior citizens may have additional exemptions available.
If you have been approved for this exemption in the past, you do not need to do it again.
The Homestead Exemption will remain attached to the residential property until there is a change in ownership.
