June 11th is National Corn on the Cob Day, and there’s no better way to honor it than by firing up the grill and enjoying this golden summertime classic.
A Quick Look at the History of Corn on the Cob
Corn has deep roots in American history. Originally cultivated by Indigenous peoples over 7,000 years ago, corn remains one of the most important crops in North America. And while there are countless ways to prepare it, corn on the cob is a fan-favorite for its simplicity, flavor, and nostalgia.
Traditionally served at backyard barbecues, state fairs, and summer picnics, corn on the cob has earned a place on just about every cookout menu—and for good reason.
Why Grilled Corn on the Cob?
Boiled corn is great. But grilled corn on the cob? That’s next-level. Grilling caramelizes the natural sugars in the corn, creating a smoky-sweet flavor and crispy charred kernels that take this humble vegetable to new heights. It’s easy, fast, and guaranteed to impress.

4. Make the Garlic Herb Butter:

5. Serve and Enjoy:
Remove the corn from the grill and immediately slather with garlic herb butter. Serve hot with extra butter on the side!
Tips for Perfect Grilled Corn
- Leave the husks on (optional): You can grill corn with the husks on for a steamed effect, then peel them back and char the kernels briefly.
- Try flavored salts or spices: Smoked paprika, chili powder, or parmesan can add a fun twist.
- Add a squeeze of lime: Especially good if you’re going for a Mexican-style street corn vibe.
