Kennesaw Parks & Recreation invites residents to refresh their bookshelves and media collections at the Annual Book Swap, happening Saturday, January 24, from 8 to 11 a.m. at the Ben Robertson Community Center. This beloved community event is a fun, sustainable way to share stories, music, and movies—completely free of charge.

How the Book Swap Works

Participants can drop off gently used items in advance and receive tickets to redeem during the “open swap” on event day.

Drop-Off Dates & Times
📅 January 22 & 23

For every eligible item dropped off, participants will receive a ticket that can be exchanged for the same type of item during the swap on January 24.

Exchange Rules

  • 1 book = 1 book
  • 1 CD = 1 CD
  • 1 DVD = 1 DVD
  • 1 vinyl record = 1 vinyl record

Items will be organized by category and available on a first-come, first-served basis.

  • 30 vinyl records

All items must be in good condition:

Items Not Accepted

To ensure a positive experience for everyone, the following items will not be accepted:

  • Textbooks or manuals
  • Magazines

  • VHS or cassette tapes
  • Adult content
  • Unauthorized or illegal materials

This event is not a donation site or book sale. Items cannot be purchased with money, and the swap is not intended for commercial use. Any items remaining at the end of the event will be donated to a local charity.

Lend a Hand: Volunteer Opportunities Available

Kennesaw Parks & Recreation is also seeking volunteers to help make the event a success. Assistance is needed during both the drop-off days and the swap itself, including receiving, sorting, counting, and bagging items.

Volunteers should be able to bend, stoop, stand, and lift up to 20 pounds. Those interested can view available shifts and sign up through the CivicRec registration website by selecting “Volunteer Opportunities.”

A Community Swap with a Purpose

The Annual Book Swap is a great way to discover new favorites, reduce waste, and connect with neighbors—all while keeping media in circulation. Whether you’re clearing space at home or searching for your next great read, this event offers something for everyone.

For final acceptance of items, please note that event staff reserve the right to accept or deny any materials. Participants are encouraged to screen selections according to their own standards, as the City of Kennesaw Parks & Recreation Department is not responsible for the content or condition of swap items.

Mark your calendar and join Kennesaw Parks & Recreation for this fun, free, and community-driven event!

Thank you to City of Kennesaw for this wonderful event.
